Some verbs has a a rule to be followed by a gerund. Observe “stop” in the comic strip. I have taken some of them for you:
admit – She admitted cheating on the examination.
appreciate – I appreciated her helping me.
avoid – They avoid meeting her there.
can’t help – I can’t help singing well.
can’t see – They can’t see paying for an expensive car.
complete – He completed doing his homework.
consider – They considered traveling to Africa with us.
